
VIOLIN and VIOLA TEACHER
Cassandra Bequary is an accomplished violinist with a passion for teaching and performing.
While earning her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from the Oberlin Conservatory
of Music in Ohio, Cassandra studied with Professor Marilyn McDonald. She began her study of
string pedagogy with Joanne Irwin, and moved on to privately teach young children participating
in the Conservatory Preparatory program, as well as Oberlin College students. She has been
leading group and private violin lessons for 8 years with students of ages 3-adult. In addition,
Cassandra has performed regular music outreach concerts and master classes for youth
music programs all over the United States. Cassandra is a creative and enthusiastic teacher.
She is devoted to working with students in fun and individualized ways, teaching and practicing
both solid technique and a love for musical performance and expression.
Cassandra made her solo debut at age 10, and has performed as a soloist throughout the
United States and Germany, including with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra (2009), Oberlin
Baroque Orchestra (2008-2009), Choate Rosemary Hall Chamber Orchestra (2002-2005), and
the Waterbury Youth Symphony (1997). Cassandra was also selected to perform in the Oberlin
Conservatory Honors Recital in 2009. An avid chamber musician, Cassandra has played with
several chamber ensembles during her time in Ohio including the Bowlin String Quartet, Face
String trio, and the Forte String Quartet, studying with members of the Emerson and Takacs
String Quartets, and touring throughout South Carolina and Ohio.
Cassandra served as concertmaster of the Oberlin Orchestra from 2008-2010, performing in
Carnegie Hall under conductor Robert Spano in 2007. In past summers, Cassandra has
participated in the International Festival-Institute at Round Top in Texas, the Apple Hill Chamber
Music Festival in New Hampshire, and Summer Music West in San Francisco, CA.
Cassandra is currently earning her Masters in Music degree from the San Francisco
Conservatory of Music, studying in the studio of Ian Swensen.
